Bad fitting dentures, chewing surface does not meet
This visit late summer 2018 I had decided to have another full set of dentures made in case of breakage, damage etc. of my current set. Now I had been going to Sexton for the past 10 years, once for extractions and initial top plate, then a year later for a permenant upper as the initial plate was way too big when my gums healed and shrunk to normal size. (Something I was told was normal). My next visit was for lower partial, next visit for extraction of remaining lower teeth and bottom plate. I always bought the best they offered, including the "wax try in" to make sure that I approved of the look before final casting. Up until this last visit I had always been pleased.
This time however, when I came back in later in the morning, the front teeth were huge, I could not properly close my mouth and when placed next to my other set ( only 3 years old) the front 4 teeth were rediculously longer than the other set. They tried to argue that it was because my gums were swollen and all would be fine later. I reminded them that my gums were NOT swollen as I had already been wearing full dentures for over 8 years! They then begrudgingly took them out, said to come back at 1 for another try in. Came back at 1pm, but they were not ready until 4pm. When I tried them in, I was pleased that the 4 fronts were normal sized, but told her that no teeth except the 2 fronts touch top to bottom. She instructed me to not bite down hard reminding me they were set in wax, but assured me they would meet when they were cast.
I was then instructed to go and pay, once paid, they would cast them and to come back the next morning to recieve my new dentures. I did as they instructed, came back in the morning at 0700, at Noon, they finally called me back, shoved the teeth in and said ok, you can go. I immediately noticed that the sides and back teeth did not meet, and when my teeth were closed there was a visable gap on the right side where obviously they did not meet! All I got was " you paid for the try in, so you got exactly what you wanted". I was extremely upset that I had just paid over $700 for dentures that not only did not meet, making them impossible to chew with, but the lowers were so large, when I moved my tongue, they fell right out!
Sadly, they sit in a tooth caddy with water on the counter because I've tried, but they still don't allow chewing! Waste of time, airfare, hotel and money!

Wasted time, LOTS of money, and breath
So, first off, I called, told the nurse in the anesthesia department what I'd like done. With IV sedation, xray, simple extractions of 17 teeth, and top & bottom temporary dentures, plus 3 month follow-up would be $2500, give or take...but she said it would be right in that area.
That was fine. I needed the IV sedation because of my high anxiety. 22 years prior, I had to get 8 back teeth pulled, due to my pregnancy causing issues with my teeth. I've been sleeping with a CPAP for 11 years, and most people know, when your mouth gets that dry for long periods, it does a number to your teeth.
Well, I have some bad teeth. For example, one in the back was 3/4 covered with a filling. It hurt all the time. I also had 2 small cavities that hurt, and all other teeth have an extreme sensitivity to heat and cold.
Not to meantion, they are yellow...mostly from the dry air from the CPAP. Oh, and buck teeth..yep. 43 years of buck teeth was enough for me. I couldn't eat or drink after midnight, and had to be at the office at 6am.
Around 7am, my xray was done, then at 10am, Dr Clark saw me for a consult. He told me he was not going to pull the bad teeth. He wanted to do a root canal on one, and a crown on the one in the very back (the one that was 2/3 filled), and he would NOT pull my front teeth, even though they give me trouble, they are a hindrance to me getting a job. Seriously...who wants to hire someone that has yellow buck teeth to represent their company?
No one so far, after 4.5 years of searching. *** I refused his little suggestion, which by the way, would have cost around $5000. He told me to "keep all those teeth in your damn mouth then, because no dentist under me in this practice will pull them either" HORRIBLE chair-side manner. I left in tears...oh, after my husband and I were berated at the front desk, as the "doctor" forced them to go stand between the front desk and the door, to make sure we paid the $100 for the xray and 'consult', along with them speaking loudly as to why they were standing there...like we were common thieves.
Seriously? Why would I take $4000 cash (in case it went over the quote of $2500, and try to bail on a $100 fee for xray and consult?) Anyway, next door was another dental clinic. They didn't offer IV sedation...but at that pint, what did I have to lose?? I walked in there.
After I done my paperwork, I was called back in 10 minutes. The doctor did tell me, he'd like if I kept my front teeth, top and bottom (he didn't ORDER me like Dr Clark did at SEXTON). I told him what Dr Clark said about the root canal and crown. He was astonished!
Said I absolutely did NOT need a root canal, and to put a crown on the tooth in the back that was 2/3 filled, made the least sense he had ever heard of. The dr and his tech took the time to talk to me about what was best, and that he would like me to keep my front teeth also. I explained about the yellow..he gave me tips on keeping my mouth moist during CPAP use. He pulled the horrible back tooth and 2 others with a bad cavities, and we came up with a treatment plan TOGETHER....NOT like Dr Clark who pretty much threw me out because I wanted teeth pulled and dentures.
Oh, and my husband had to take 2 days off from work which cost us over $400, we had to get a motel room for 2 nights which was right at $200, plus gas, food, etc for the trip (2.5 hours from my home). It was awful. Read their reviews...and believe them! I thought "It can't be as bad as these people are saying" HA!
It was worse. Just don't go! If you do, don't say I didn't warn ya!
The first thing Sexton Dental can do is get rid of "Dr" Clark. He is hateful, he talks about how he hates his job, and he will try to force expensive treatments on you that you do not need.

HORRIBLE!!!!
I drove 2 hours to Sexton Dental Clinic to have upper dentures made. I chose the Signature denture (as their website say's it the top of the line.) When my new denture was ready it was huge.
The gums and the roof was so thick it made me *** I told this to the attendant but she seemed unconcerned and kept telling me they looked great. She adjusted them but they still didn't fit and made me *** They made my top lip stick way out and I couldn't close my mouth. She got very aggravated at me for complaining and told me there was nothing else she could do to them, that if she drilled anymore I wouldn't be able to keep them in, and my only option would be to have them made over at my expense.
They could care less about their customers.
So now after wasting my time and money, I still don't have a denture that is wearable. Stay away from this place.
My grandmother loved their dentures.
Ratings
My experience was excellent. I made an appointment so I could be sedated.
From the time I got there the staff was super to me. Everyone went out of there to assist me. I had 20 teeth pulled. When I got to the back to remove my teeth, the doctor and both nurses kept me laughing until I went to sleep.
When they woke me up it was the same attitude. They did a great job pulling and replacing dentures. Went back once to have reline and adjustments. After 6 months I went to get my perm dentures and was treated the same.
In fact two nurses remembered me and what we had discussed. When I asked her about her grandbabies, she got a tear in her eye. She said I was the first person ever to remember the discussion and asked her about it. They gave me my perm dentures and everything has been great.
This has been several years ago and next Monday March 18th I am going back for the "signature" top of the line dentures. I am so sorry your visit wasn't that good. I did hear that the older dentist was rude and acted as if he didn't care.
I was given his son and he was super and caring. Steve
- Super and looking forward to seeing them next monday march
